Vermont’s Hally Laney, Binghamton’s Liam Murphy Named America East Swimmers of the Week

  • Set first-place pool record for 100 fly (55.74) and 200 fly (2:03.54).

  • He was also part of the winning 200 free (time), 200 medley (time) and 400 medley (time) relay teams, all of which set team records.

  • He won the 200 freestyle (1:38.55), the 500 freestyle (4:28.00, pool record) and the 1,650 freestyle (15:40.82, pool record).

  • He swam on the winning 400-pound (time) and 800-pound (time) relays.

BOSTON – Hally Laney earned her first America East Swimmer of the Week honors after a stellar performance at the Harold Anderson Invitational, the league announced Tuesday morning. This is the third America East Weekly honor the Catamounts have received this season, as Jackie House earned Female Swimmer of the Week (Oct. 18) and Annika Overvig earned Female Diver of the Week (Oct. 8 November).

Laney had a dominant performance at the Harold Anderson Invitational, taking home three individual victories and setting two group records to earn her first America East honors of the season. Laney was also part of three winning relays that took first place and set pool records at the Tootell Aquatic Center.

Laney won the 200 IM, 100 fly and 200 fly individual events. In the 200 fly, she set a pool record with a time of 2:30.54 and in the 100 fly she set another pool record finishing in 55.74.

In the relays, Laney was part of the 200 free, 200 medley and 400 medley relay teams that all won and set records at the Tootell Aquatic Center. In the 200 free, his relay team clocked in at 1:36.40. In the 200 medley they finished in a blistering time of 1:44.74, while in the 400 medley the team finished in a time of 3:49.13.

Laney and the Catamounts will return to action on Saturday, Dec. 3 for a dual meet. Vermont will compete with UMass and Binghamton in the Joseph R. Rogers Jr. Pool. from Amherst, Mass., with the diving competition scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. and the swimming portion at 1 p.m.
