Julian Sands: Is British Hollywood actor missing in California?
Phone records from missing actor Julian Sands have revealed his last known movements, as his family cling to hope a week after he was reported missing.
Police revealed on Friday that the British actor, best known for films such as Room with a View and arachnophobia, he was moving two days after he was reported missing in the mountains of California.
Attempted phone calls since then have failed, police said, possibly due to the actor’s phone running out of charge.
It comes after Independence revealed photos sent from Sands to his grandson Billy in September, which show the father-of-three climbing mountains.
Sands has been missing from the Mount Baldy area since Jan. 13, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said. He was thought to be somewhere on the famous Baldy Bowl Trail, which climbs 3,900 feet over 4.5 miles to the highest peak in the San Gabriel Mountains.
Search and rescue crews searching for Sands were initially forced to call off the search over the weekend because of the threat of avalanches. Snow and fog have continued to hamper the search in the days since.
Independence he understands that Sands’ son Henry has joined the search. He retraces the route his father took, with the help of an experienced mountaineer.

Sands appeared to be on the move two whole days after she was reported missing.
A spokesperson for the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said: “On January 15, 2023, phone calls indicated Sands was heading to the Mount Baldy area.
“Additional phone calls to the phone carrier were attempted but were unsuccessful, due to lack of cell service and most likely a cell phone power outage.”

Police have revealed that two hikers have died in the past four weeks attempting to climb the route on Mount Baldy and the surrounding area.
“The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department asks everyone to follow these simple tips to keep yourself and others safe,” they wrote.
• Observe all posted warning signs
• Check the weather (current and forecast) for the area
• Make sure you have the right equipment, training and are properly prepared for mountain conditions (Company, ice axe, suitable clothing)
• Bring a tracking or GPS device such as a SPOT Device or INREACH Device
• Make sure your cell phone is fully charged and bring a charged extra power pack for it
• Let someone know where and when you are going, and what time you will be back
• Most importantly- If you don’t know, please don’t go!

Exclusive photo: Last known photos of Sands climbers shared by The Independent
The Sands family have shared the last known photos of him climbing the mountain alone Independence.
A family member told Independence: “This is how he would like to be seen, doing what he loved best – a brave mountaineer, and he was happy to send a picture of himself looking happy to share with his beloved grandson, Billy.”
And a friend described him as “a Byronesque lover and traveler who is fascinated by nature, enjoying the freedom of the mountains”.
Sands was scaling the 14,783ft Weisshorn when the color photographs were taken.

British filmmaker Cassian Elwes shared his best wishes for Julian Sands.
He wrote: “I have known since last Friday that my friend Julian Sands has disappeared from mt baldy. I am confused. A very close family friend who was funny in everything he did. I have made many prayers.”
Meanwhile, producer Frank Marshall said his “thoughts” go out to the Sands family, whom he called “a dear friend and a wonderful actor”.

‘No hard deadline’ to end search for Julian Sands – authorities
Authorities say there is still “no deadline” for ending the search for Julian Sands, a week after the British actor was reported missing in the mountains of southern California.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said the incident was still being classified as a search and rescue operation, although snow, sleet and fog continued to hamper operations on foot.

The actor’s car was found near the place where he was reported missing
On Thursday (19 January), Sands’ car was found in a car park near where he started his journey.
The car was towed away by his family, police confirmed.
