Julian Sands: Is British Hollywood actor missing in California?
The family of Julian Sands have issued a statement thanking the “heroic” efforts of California authorities in the search for the missing British actor.
Search for War star has entered its 11th day with a gale warning with gusts of up to 62 to 67mph.
On Monday 23 January, the National Weather Service reported strong winds affecting the Santa Ana and San Bernandino mountain areas, near the San Gabriel Mountains where Sands is believed to have disappeared.
The alert warned of possible power outages, travel disruptions and the risk of downed trees: “The strongest winds will be on south-facing slopes and uplands, below the Morongo Pass, and through and below the canyons of the Santa Ana Mountains, ” the report said.
Last week, ground crews were forced to suspend the search for Sands due to avalanche danger in the area.
“The air search is underway again, but we have not been able to continue the ground search yet due to icy conditions and the threat of avalanches,” said Gloria Huerta, Public Information Officer for the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

Julian Sands, a prolific actor with more than 150 screen credits, has disappeared while hiking.
The British star is believed to be somewhere on the famous Baldy Bowl Trail in California, which climbs 3,900 feet over 4.5 miles to the highest peak in the San Gabriel Mountains.
Search and rescue teams are searching for Sands, with friends of the actor, including Matthew Modine, Rufus Sewell and film producer Frank Marshall, expressing hope that he will be found safe.

There is no final deadline for the search, authorities say
US authorities have said that there is still no “hard date” to end the search for Julian Sands.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said the incident is still being classified as a search and rescue operation.
“We will plan another ground search when the weather improves, and it is safe for our ground crews,” a spokesman from the department said.

Federal agencies have joined the search for Sands

In filing the family’s statement, the sheriff’s department also issued its own update.
