ATLANTA – Atlanta United announced today that they have signed goalkeeper Quentin Westberg to a one-year contract through the 2023 MLS season. The 36-year-old spent the last four seasons with Toronto FC after starting his professional career in France.
“Quentin is a proven goalkeeper in MLS and Europe and we are excited to welcome him to Atlanta,” said Atlanta United Vice President and Technical Director Carlos Bocanegra. “We wanted to strengthen our depth at the goaltending position and Quentin will be a great addition to our group.”
Westberg was born in France and came through the youth academy with ES Troyes AC before making his professional debut as a substitute against Valenciennes on 21 October 2006. In four seasons, he made more than 50 appearances for Troy. In the summer of 2012, Vestberg joined Championnat National side Luzenac AP, where he received his first extended playing time. In two seasons, the goalkeeper made 71 appearances, scoring 27 clean sheets in League play before moving to Ligue 2 side Tours FC.
After two seasons with Tour FC, the goalkeeper joined AJ Auxerre on a free transfer. He signed with Toronto FC and made 22 appearances in all competitions for Auxerre before joining MLS ahead of the 2019 regular season. Westberg immediately established himself as the No. 1 goaltender for Toronto and started 28 games during the regular season. He also made all four starts in the MLS Cup playoffs as Toronto FC won the Eastern Conference championship before falling to Seattle in the MLS Cup. In four seasons with Toronto, Westberg played in 68 matches and scored 10 clean sheets. His save percentage was 60.7% or better in each of his four seasons with Toronto.
Westberg chose to represent the United States internationally, playing at the U-17, U-20 and U-23 levels.
